Home canning how-to video's on youtube
« on: October 25, 2008, 02:28:07 AM »
This is amazingly simple. One of the better 30 minutes I've spent recently. There are only 2 basic kinds of food, acidic and non-acidic. There are only 2 kinds of canning procedures, hot water bath canning and pressure canning. Learn the basic procedure here then go buy a book to give you the specific times for each individual food you want to can. That's all there is to it.

Some very good videos.

A couple notes:

If for some reason you end up with excess milk, that you would like to save, and no more freezer space.  You can put it into canning jars and can it, use the same procedure as for meat.  It is a protein food so use the meat time and pressure recommendations.
Just be really careful on the pressure and time.  If you go a bit over in either direction, it ruins the quality.
But, with careful attention, your milk will turn out just like the tinned milk from the store.

Here is a newer video, just uploaded, and the marmalade isn't thrilling, it is okay.
But, look at those lids!
They are reusable!
Wow.
I have got to have some of those!

They are a bit pricey, but they are permanent lids... but I would need alot of them.
