The security system alerted police, and they arrested him before he got in.

Still, there is no mention in the story about bodyguards or other occupants of the house. She lives alone?! Nothing but the security system between her and a potential kidnapper (or worse!)?

That just reminded me of when the Symbionese Liberation Army kidnapped Patty Hearst. It was easy--they just grabbed her (at gunpoint, which was overkill) from her apartment in Berkeley.
