This article arrives as the same conclusions I do with two exceptions. They don't mention using a handfull of sand or dry dirt, and believe it or not, it is possible to use smooth rocks.

I plan on the cloth method when my stockpile runs out.  I'm keeping worn towels & terry remnants with a 5 gal bucket & lid.  Same method as cloth diapers.

When I was a kid, we used an outhouse and old catalogs and magazines to wipe with. You quickly learn which pages work better, and know to skim the magazine looking for the non glossy softer pages. It also made for some great reading entertainment while you were waiting to do your business.  :laughing002:
I know the old outhouses are pretty much a thing of the past, but they had their advantages. Like no water and sewage bill. When I was a kid, even our school had outhouses!!! Don't see those in the school system today.

A friend of mine lives on a mountain in Alaska.  She has her outhouse situated so the deposits fall off a cliff.  No bathrooms to clean.

ok, some of you might think this is disgusting, but I currently use a plastic water bottle to spray off . . . then I follow-up with right hand to wash further.  set water bottle down and take right hand to sink to wash thoroughly. no TP is used.  I find TP an abomination.  Why?  cause it's dry and doesn't do a good job at all.  i'd love to have a bidet.  been thinking of how to use a pressurized water bottle to have a little more pressure to do the initial wash off.

When I was in the Philippines I stay at a place that had a bathroom. But you did your buisness first and it was a wash with hand and water. You poured water in to the tolit after and let gravity do it work, it actully worked pretty good.

Wellspring, a peri bottle.  The kind that is designed to be used after giving birth to frequently rinse the area to speed healing.  I use mine rather than TP.  You can get a lot of pressure from it, and I find I don't even need a whole bottle each time.

For my toddler, who is still in diapers, I hold him in the sink and wash him, then wash the inside of the sink well and scrub my hands with soap.

These gadgets are wonderful for the disabled. Strange to think that they may become mainstream someday.

could not see the original site (log in required) so at first I guess you were talking about toothpaste.....clearly you are not!  For those who want to stick with a paper like material, grow mullein.  (Also great herb to strengthen the mucous membranes.  Oh, and it can be weedy which isn't a bad thing if you need TP).

How about just a Diaper Sprayer like the cloth diaperers often use to knock poop off of diapers before tossing them into the diaper pail?

Here's the first link that came up when I googled, and it shows it pretty well.
