Glad you're back, especially under the circumstances. Yikes!
Unfortunately, it is now well beyond my bandwidth to keep track of anyone beyond folks who interact with me pretty regularly, and even that is a challenge for me at this point. Which unfortunately is not within the spirit of what this site is about!! We're supposed to look out for each other.
I try to set up "heartbeat protocols" with my friends. The idea is that you send each other cards, letters, emails, phone calls, and so on, regularly, redundantly, and if someone "disappears" unexpectedly, you escalate and try to figure out why, and help if needed. (Ideally, you would have contact information not only for your friends and relatives, but for their next-of-kin as well, and redundant contact information on top of it).
Something like that actually happened, sort of. Without naming names (actually, I seem to recall that the participants mentioned it online), someone's account was hijacked by a malicious person who posted a falsified plea for help, that someone else forewarded, resulting in a flurry of frantic phone calls, and emails, that resolved what the real problem was fairly quickly. Had that been a real emergency, we would have been able to bail someone out.
There are actually software systems that can help the situation. Basically, if someone hasn't posted within xx days, the system would prompt the administrator to send an email to check up on him/her. Of course that would not have helped since you email was down. That's why it's important to have redundant contact information.
Just planting ideas.
