Offdalip, land prices in Western WA and OR essentially preclude the ability to make a living subsistence farming if it came to that. Taxes are also on the rise nationwide. There are other issues as well.
Karch, no point in moving unless you have a plan. Spanish however is fairly trivial to learn. There are huge numbers of cognates with English due to the introduction of Norman French into Britain, and the grammar is similar to that of many other European languages. 3 or 4 months and you'd be fairly fluent.
Land is cheap in the southern end of South America, and several countries relatively tolerant of us as immigrants. Some of the laws fairly tolerant; for example, homes-schooling is legal in several of these countries.
Contrast to New Zealand, which is beautiful, has a mild climate, but we are not particularly welcome, a great many of Helen Clark's "comrades" are still deeply entrenched in the social welfare bureaucracy (not that it matters, since the Conservatives have done nothing to try to fix the sorry state of affairs), and the social and economic policies of the country would be "out of the frying pan and into the fire".
The country also has "foreign affairs entanglements" some of us would rather avoid.

Same problem with Australia.
Overall, the Southern Hemisphere is safer than the Northern on numerous accounts.
