Wellspring, you might want to try the above link. It sounds like it would work to clean up your cast iron.

Good article. I bought mine pre-seasoned, but I may put it through the process again just to make sure it's done right.

Try putting it in a fire.  That's what my father does to get them very clean. 

Then take a look to see how bad it is.
