I can't vouch for the quality of this since I have never owned one, but it's hard to beat that price. Free shipping too.

Good find.  I've had this on my wishlist for a while!  Folks not in the know should be aware the 60 Watts is the PEAK power.  I.e. Full Sun directly perpendicular to the panels.  Location, sun intensity, clouds, time of day etc will cause power output to vary considerably.  Charged batteries of course will help ride out the lulls depending on the load.

So I read the reviews on Amazon and am still not certain how I'd put this system to use.  Last reviewer talked about plugging rechargeables and laptop into the the inverter via two marine storage batteries.  We don't get many power outages here; of course that could change.

Can any of you folks out there familiar with these systems give me some insight into how one can assess the necessity of such of system?

I like the idea~

I'd like one to keep radio communications up and running. That and to power a well pump.

Solar water pump is a very good idea, especially if combined with a storage tank at a high elevation.  But even without it, running a well sustainably during system failure to irrigate, wash, clean etc will be very useful.   I was originally thinkking of using it in a location that I grow in that has no water supply or electricity if I dug a well.  Decided not to dig the well.  In general small useful items: radios, cell phones, maybe a mini fridge for critical items, water pump in house (we have out own tanks...where does your water come from?), small lights etc.
