Crosscut saw sharpening and care

There are a surprising number of these saws still around. Some might of been decorative painted but could still be cleaned up and put back in use. Print this off and put it in your personal survival library. Even if you don't know how to use this info somebody like me would love to have this info.

Thanks Ryder. Good info.

I will download it to the file sharing site too.  This is the kind of stuff we need for the site, people.  Sowhen you find them, send them to me to upload.  I am still working to get the stuff to the wiki also.

Can we have a woman's section for stuff like treadle sewing machines, and wringer washers and carpet sweepers etc.

There seems to be a bias of men's stuff in the competition for necessary tools and resources.

I have seen ladies sections on other forums.  Might not be a bad idea.

Good Idea! Especially for us single men who may not think of these so call "womens" tasks, as womens tasks.

The label "women's task" is an identifier most of us recognize and denotes a relative gendered body of knowledge and skill; it does not imply who "should" do it.  I suspect that most people would prefer to use automated and/or purchased services rather than home production as long as is possible; that would include women.  I do not get real excited about knitting all our socks and mitts.

Ryder, do you happen to have a link for an equivalent article on sharpening carpentry cross cut and back saws and/or do you know if or how to sharpen the Japaneese pull stroke saws with atypical teeth patterns?

I did some research into saws and the best single saw I can think to have is a 24" bow saw with some sweedish made blades. I don't have the link for those blades, sorry.

I buy every bow saw I come across at yard sales etc. 24 inch is a big saw but good for firewood. The smaller bow saws actualy work quite well and are available at most hardware stores. Around here there are also blades available and just like hacksaw blades go for the more expensive blades and you have a usable tool.
